Eric Fishman, 33, a star basketball player at Cranbrook Schools and Kalamazoo College, was inducted Tuesday night into the Michigan Jewish Sports Hall of Fame at a dinner at the Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit in West Bloomfield.

He joins hall of fame inductees -- his father, criminal defense attorney Steve Fishman, 75, who played basketball at the Mumford High School and the University of Michigan, and his grandfather Herman Fishman, who played four sports at Northern High School in Detroit and baseball and basketball at U-M.

Herman Fishman, who was inducted into the hall in 1987, played minor league baseball and was on his way to the big leagues when World War II broke out and he joined the Navy, his son Steve Fishman said. Herman died in 1967.

Steve Fishman, who was inducted into the hall in 2003,  said it was an honor to have his son join two generations of the family in the hall of fame.

"It was well deserved," he said.

Additionally, Fishman said his uncle Mickey Fishman, a star pitcher at the University of Michigan, was inducted in 1998.
