Time flies.

Fox 2's Roop Raj

Fox 2's Anchor Roop Raj is celebrating 16 years at the station with a statement on Facebook:

Celebrating 16 years at Fox 2. I am truly grateful to all of you who have watched me. Little trip down memory lane.

I started as a weekend morning anchor/weekday LIVE reporter in 2009 and moved into a lot of seats.  I was cohost of The Nine for a short time (admittedly, I never was able to do well at it. It takes a special talent to make that job look easy).

When the great, late Al Allen retired in 2012, I enjoyed becoming morning reporter on the side of the highway, despite the 2:30am alarm clock. Then I caught up on a few years of sleep and did the 5:30pm and 6:30pm news, while also filling in for Huel, a great mentor and friend. In 2020, in the throws of the pandemic, I joined Taryn Asher at the 5pm anchor desk. This was a full circle moment as Taryn and I launched our careers, watching each other in Lansing and Flint in the 90’s.

After Huel and Monica retired in 2022, I joined the talented producers, writers, photogs and directors on the night crew.  Then in July, we launched “The Pulse.”

It’s been a dream to be able to do the news in my hometown. Telling your stories, trying to bring the world into focus every night, and being invited to host your events has been a privilege I don’t take for granted. 16 years later, I’m now hearing college students tell me they “grew up” watching me.  As a kid who grew up watching Fox 2, there is no better feeling.

Thanks for the love.
