Rocker Ted Nugent, aka the "Motor City Madman," stirred controversy last month when he got past security with a gun before testifying before state House committees at the state Capitol to criticize Department of Natural Resources (DNR) regulators.

It was only after his testimony that Michigan State Police confronted him about violating state law by bringing the gun into the Capitol—even though they had been informed of it before he finished speaking. Some lawmakers criticized police for not acting sooner.

His testimony also drew criticism. Nugent accused the DNR of being “the enemies of conservation” and railed against state bans on deer baiting, the raising of certain pig breeds deemed invasive, among other grievances, according to Bridge Michigan.

Michigan Natural Resources Commissioner John Walters, at a commission meeting on Thursday, described Nugent's testimony as “appalling,” under-informed, and disrespectful.

“I was frankly insulted by Ted Nugent and his testimony for a variety of reasons,” Walters said, according to Bridge.

“Frankly, if he wants to effectuate change, he can certainly come before the commission, as can all of you,” Walters added. “He did not do that. Instead, he chose to grandstand in front of the Legislature.”
