The Detroit Fire Investigation Division, a joint task force comprised of Detroit Police and Fire department investigators, released a video Tuesday in hopes of identifying a man who set a fire last month at the Huntington Place convention center in downtown Detroit.
Authorities said that on Tuesday, April 28, just before 9 a.m., the suspect was seen in the concourse of the first floor dousing the carpet with gasoline he had in water bottles.
He then set the fire and walked away.
Huntington Place security immediately responded and extinguished the fire, resulting in minimal damage, investigators said.
The suspect, a male wearing all black and a gray mask, was carrying a black backpack with several white logos.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Detroit Police Department’s Fire Investigation Division at 313-596-2940, the arson tip line at 313-628-2900, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. Tipsters can also write to arsontips@detroitmi.gov.
A reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
